Graficon Maschinenbau AG - Control of a rewinding table for labels (winder application) for the printing industry

The goal of Graficon Maschinenbau AG was to get a compact, universal and easy-to-use solution for the rewinding and printing of labels. The cost-efficient basic design should be easily extended by different options according to customer requirements. (E.g., an inkjet printer)

The table rewinds a wide range of label sizes at up to 200 m/min. The number of labels is preselected on the touchpanel. Missing labels are detected automatically.

A particular challenge was the robust control behavior of the web tensioning and speed with different products and mass inertias.

The control concept is based on a SIMATIC S7-1200 CPU. Two SINAMICS G120 Drives with ProfiNet have been selected for the drives. The network is connected over a CSM1277 switch. A SIMATIC HMI KTP400 with a 4 "touch has been used as HMI.

The concept allows a fully integrated software solution from PLC, HMI and Motion Control functionality. The programming was completely done in the Siemens TIA portal.

In the solution, TBM Automation AG was able to contribute its many years of experience in the field of motion control.

The customer benefits from a simple operation and a quick product change.

The integration of PLC and motion functionality allows a simple setup of the product parameters. All important drive data are available via ProfiNet at any time in the PLC and the HMI. A simple remote maintenance of all devices is also possible.

Relevant production data may be sent, e.g. with OPC-UA to the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) of the customer.
